Supernova rose

I don’t often photograph roses. Like the number of unwanted puppies and kittens in the world already, there are lots of rose photographs.

It’s not as if I don’t enjoy photographing flowers, as you’ll see from my collection. It’s just I always feel guilty photographing roses, as if I’m adding to some kind of population problem.

However, (and there should always be a however when a camera is involved) I couldn’t resist enlisting the help of my macro lens to get a more intimate view of this one. Flowers close up are always full of interesting little worlds, and this tiny little rose was no exception. With bright yellow stamens and candy pink petals, it makes for an explosion of colours and shapes. It reminds me of the startling images of supernovae brought to us by astronomers, and it seems fitting to start my blog with a bang.
