Oak with snowy sky

As anyone who has a dog to exercise knows, even the nicest walks can get a bit dull when you do them every day, rain or shine. There’s one point on my regular walk where the wind whips around an exposed corner on the Grand Western Canal, and on a rainy day I’m tempted to turn for home. It also happens to be where this lovely oak tree stands on the canal bank. It’s come into its own in winter, standing sentinel on the turn of the corner with its stark tracery of branches against the sky.

On this particular day I was here between snow showers, so the sky was a lovely grey matching the steely colour of the frozen canal. The biscuit colour of the reedmace adds a bit of warmth to the colour palette.

This photograph is available as a fine art print; I like this on Hahnemuhle art paper as the texture works well with the gentle colours of this photograph whilst retaining the detail.
