Snow shadows

A layer of fresh snow had fallen overnight, the sort that creaks underfoot and makes excellent snowballs. Morning was bright and clear, and the low winter sun was throwing long shadows across the snow. These shadows almost seemed to be parallel lines, the rhythm only broken by the gentle rise and fall of the snow underneath.

I enjoy exploiting the two-dimensional world of an image to create a different sense of our three dimensional world. By taking just one section of the view in front of me it became a pattern across a canvas. Interestingly, although this image is of something static, it seems to shift and change as my eye moves across it; the human mind must strongly associate ripples with movement.
