frog with spawn

A male common frog, Rana temporaria, waits in a garden pond surrounded by frog spawn. The pond in February is seething with frogs and toads all looking to attract mates and lay their eggs. It’s very noisy, with competitive croaking and the splashes of males wrestling access to the females. They are still watchful, though, and dive at the slightest hint of trouble. Luckily they have short memories so you just need to take up position and wait for them to pop back up to catch a shot of their beautiful gold-ringed eyes.
