The north Cornwall coast is a distinctive blend of raw cliffs and turquoise seas, but despite its inhospitable air it has been worked and lived on throughout the ages. One of the most visited sites is the spectacular Tintagel castle which dates back to early mediaeval times, with evidence for much earlier occupation. This image shows the wild cliffs of Tintagel Island with tumbling sea pinks along the steep hillside and just enough crumbling wall to remind that this is not such an untamed landscape after all.
